FTA between El Salvador and Taiwan reduces import tax on honey VAPE's greatest competitive advantage

The biggest competitive advantage VAPE, a family owned honey exporter, has this year when sending its product to Asia is a change to the Free Trade Agreement between El Salvador and Taiwan that will allow honey to enter Taiwan tax free; 0% duty.
VAPE first came to Taipei four years ago trying to commercialize its unique honey only found in Central America. The mix of a tropical location, volcanic terrains, lush forests and sun filled coast allow a harvest of intense and highly aromatic honey that Europe’s largest importers rely on for their yearly blends. “We want people in Taiwan to experience pure honey from the Mayan region of El Salvador to see why it is so highly prized but a 20-30% import tax 4 years ago made it uncompetitive to do so”, says Elisa de Valiente, Finance Director of the 35-year-old firm.
Now, with an increase in demand for quality, more people turning to natural sweeteners /functional foods and this policy there is a clear opportunity to introduce this world-recognized product to Taiwan and Asia.
VAPE Honey will be at FOOD TAIPEI 2018 on June 27 to 30 at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center, Booth M0608.
